04:00 pm: Why yes,
I have taken leave of my senses.

Losing our two cats, Dominic in Oct. 2006, and Loki in May of this year was so hard on me I told Jordin I didn't want any more pets at all ever. He really did. Jordin doesn't seem to be happy without cats. He wanted them so much I decided it would be really selfish of me to keep saying no. I decided I would surprise him for his birthday in October with an Ocicat. He's always admired them and they're beautiful and intelligent creatures. I wasn't sure how long it would take, so I started looking for a breeder in Washington.

Well, the small cattery I found didn't have any ocicats and didn't expect any anytime soon, but they did have a brother and sister Savannah. As it turns out, their mother had to have a c-section and so was spayed and they were looking for a home for her too. Yeah. We now have three cats. I'll upload some pictures later, but here are pics of the kittens. They've been named Miles and Ekaterin, in part because the Vorkosigin house colors are brown and silver.

They're the ones she called Mork and Mindy. We renamed them...

Wow, what gorgeous animals!

I think you'll find it was a good decision. After six months with no cats in the house I can't tell you how good it's been to have my girls.

They are all beautiful and I know you will give them a fabulous life.
The only way to get over loosing one is to get another.
However, as Max has just peed in my weekend bag of clothes, I am currently revising my opinion.

Well, aren't these the clothes you brought home to wash anyway? (Although I see your point. I'm pleased to hear Max is still active!)

Do you know a way to wash cat-peed-on clothes that gets the smell out? Because all too often I have a Need To Know.

I've never had cat-peed-on clothes, but I'd try oxiclean to start with.

I usually just wash with hot water and regular laundry detergent. *I* can't smell anything after that. If it can't take hot water, try dry cleaning.

For my education, what's a Savannah?

A Savannah is a cross between a domestic shorthair and a wild serval from Africa. They use various breeds of shorthair, but probably most commonly a Bengal. The results of that cross are F1 generation and they keep track of that up to F5 which is what our kittens are. The mom, Sirsi, is an F4.

The cross gives very intelligent, playful, affectionate cats. They also like to swim and can often be trained to walk on a leash, to fetch, and do other sorts of tricks. There's a pretty good article on Wikipedia.

They're gorgeous. I've always wanted a Savannah, but there are very few indeed in this country (one breeder, I think.) Your kittens (I've been working backwards down my friend's page) don't look so much like Bengals or Ocicats as they resemble Egyptian Maus.

I believe the original crossings were Siamese/Serval but I could be wrong... something I read somewhere and failed to find again...

Best wishes and good luck with all three of them.
